Introduction à la cybernétique. La pensée artificielle. First edition, presentation copy, with a lengthy ink inscription to Norbert Wiener, acknowledging the Introduction as "the product of his ideas" (original French: "le fruit de ses propres idées"). Wiener returned the compliment, writing that Latil's work was "one of the really good popularizations of cybernetics" (quoted in Origins of Cyberspace, p. 350). In 1948, Norbert Wiener (1894-1964) published Cybernetics, in which he outlined the first serious discussion of electronic computing. Five years later, Latil's Introduction was among the first works to convey the subject to a wider audience. Latil (1903-2001), a science journalist at Le Figaro, considered that Wiener's study of self-governing systems had uncovered principles which extended well beyond questions of machines and living things: principles which extended across nature itself.
