$650 · Offered by William Reese Company
[TYPED LETTER, SIGNED, AND TWO AUTOGRAPH POSTCARDS, SIGNED, FROM KATHERINE ANNE PORTER TO JOHN HINSEDALE THOMPSON, THE COEDITOR OF SIGNATURES]. To "Dear John," i.e. John Hinsedale Thompson, coeditor of Signatures, wherein an early abbreviated form of "Noon Wine" was published in spring, 1936. A hasty, chatty letter arising from trying to schedule a meeting and interview - Thompson was then teaching at Stephens College - including recollections of a croquet game with Sherwood Anderson in 1937, recounting of recent interviews and appearances, etc. In excess of 250 words, accompanied by a carbon of his letter to Porter. The postcards post-date the interview, which in the end was conducted by phone due to an accident involving Thompson's son, follow up on details, mention travels, and forward Porter's thanks to Thompson for having sent along a print of a photo of Porter and Anderson's croquet match.
