Heath Robinson" (Dalby, p. 102).In 1921, Timlin (1892-1943), a British architect working in South Africa, began to write The Ship that Sailed to Mars as a project to distract his young son. The task became an increasingly ambitious endeavour, and, after two years of work, Timlin sent it to George Harrap. The publishers decided to produce it in a lavish edition of 2,000 copies. Of these, 250 were sent to the US and published simultaneously. Timlin also contributed illustrations to various periodicals and travel books.
