Kyoto: Daiei Studios, circa 1957. Draft script for the 1958 Japanese film. Based on the 1956 novel Kinkakuji Temple of the Golden Pavilion by Yukio Mishima, which is loosely based on the actual event of the burning of the Reliquary or Golden Pavilion of Kinkaku-ji in Kyoto by a young Buddhist acolyte in 1950. The book was one of three Mishima novels adapted by Paul Schrader for episodes in his film Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters 1985 .
