Ida M. Tarbell, The Life of Abraham Lincoln: Drawn From Original Sources and Containing Many Speeches, Letters and Telegrams Hitherto Unpublished (New York: Lincoln Memorial Association, 1900), 2 vols. This is the 2nd volume of Ida Tarbell's The Life of Abraham Lincoln collection, published in 1900 by the Lincoln Memorial Association, with a copyright held by McClure, Phillips & Co. Being the 2nd volume, this book picks up on Lincoln's personal and political life after his first inauguration in 1861, a time of incredible hardship and stress for President Lincoln and the nation, as the Southern states would begin seceding shortly after the beginning of his presidency. This is an antique history book, and, as such, it reads in a much different way than modern history books. There is much more attention to emotion and detail, through excellent archival research and incorporation of Lincoln's personal correspondence. This book itself was published just over thirty years after Lincoln's presidency! A rare and unique antique book, stylized with an engraving of Lincoln's profile on the front cover. A beautiful work of history, perfect for an avid enthusiast of Civil War history or antique books. Condition: Good. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor fading, stain on front cover. Binding is a bit fragile. 126-year-old book!
