A beautiful copy of East of the Sun and West of the Moon, illustrated by one of the pillars of the Golden Age of Illustration, Kay Nielsen. Often heralded as one of his best works, this book displays old Norse fairy tales translated into English with bright and colourful drawings. Nielsen was the director of the Royal Danish Theatre and also provided concept art to Walt Disney for many animated classics. First trade edition; 4to (29 x 23 cm); 25 tipped-in colour plates with captioned tissue-guards, further black and white illustrations within text, slightly age-toned (as expected), occasional spot or mark, else a very good, bright copy; publishers blue cloth boards with gilt lettering and decoration upper board and spine, pictorial endpapers, corners and upper and lower joints slightly rubbed, small ink mark to lower page edges, tiny pink mark to upper board though largely unnoticeable, spine a little faded, else very good; 206pp, [2]pp.
