Description de la Bataille Glorieuse de Waterloo, Exposée au Panorama, Place St. Michel a Bruxelles. First edition in French, following the Dutch edition of 1816. This guide explains Maaskamp's spectacular panorama of the Battle of Waterloo, which was displayed first in Amsterdam then in Brussels. The French-language edition is only held in two institutions according to WorldCat: the University of Amsterdam and the Bibliothèque nationale de France. To celebrate the victory at Waterloo and the founding of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Amsterdam-based publisher Evert Maaskamp (1769-1834) commissioned a canvas panorama to be displayed in the capital. Its centrepiece was the court painter Joseph Denis Oedevare's celebrated image of the wounding of William, Prince of Orange, which he viewed to be the pivotal moment of the conflict. Simultaneously, Maaskamp released this pamphlet, explaining the course of the battle and including a panorama key as a souvenir. The text describes the fighting moment-by-moment, details the structure of Wellington's army, and lists his commanders.
