Gray Jr. was the Chair of the English Department at Randolph-Macon College, Virginia, and had a large circle of literary friendships.This collection includes four short stories: "A Friend of the World", "He of the Assembly", "The Story of Laheen and Idir", and "The Wind at Beni Midar". It was Bowles's first collection of works published in the US since The Delicate Prey and Other Stories (1950).
