[The Imitation of Christ, in Latin.] Early Venetian edition of this Christian devotional classic, "among the most widely read books in the whole of world literature" (New Catholic Encyclopedia).Cesare Arrivabene was active in Venice from 1517 to 1528, producing chiefly religious works, including several editions of Savonarola. The title page attributes the text to Jean Gerson, Chancellor of Paris, a common early misattribution encouraged by its anonymous circulation and frequent pairing with Gerson's De meditatione cordis, also included here.
