LE GUIN, Ursula K.

£750 · Offered by Peter Harrington

The Dispossessed. A copy owned by the political activist Maureen Delenian, the recipient of a typed letter signed from Le Guin, which is loosely inserted. The letter, on Le Guin's letterhead and dated 3 March 1995, concerns a script adaptation of The Dispossessed. Le Guin grants Delenian permission to work on an adaptation, but requests Delenian talk to her agent about selling it. Le Guin ends by remarking "your spelling of my name and Odo's is rather more anarchical than Marxist". There is no evidence of this script being finished or sold. Delenian (1937-2015) participated in the Portsmouth women's liberation movement, and was called by the Socialist Worker's Party, "a stalwart of the National Abortion Campaign".
