The World of William Clissold. Deluxe edition, one of 198 unnumbered copies signed by the author. This is Wells's longest novel and, according to his biographer, is "a watershed book in H. G. Wells's fiction" (Smith, p. 286).Despite Wells's claim in the introduction that the book is a complete work of fiction, it is a heavily autobiographical work, with the character of Clementina based on his current lover Odette Keun, to whom the novel is dedicated. The deluxe edition was published the same year as the trade edition. The novel inspired a parody work, The World of Billiam Wissold, which appeared the following year.
