Autograph letter signed, warmly thanking his sister-in-law for her telegram. Churchill writes affectionately to his sister-in-law Gwendeline, "Thank you so much my dearest Goonie for your charming telegram. I am so glad you liked what I said. It is sound. Make no mistake about it. Yours affectionately, W".In 1907, Churchill courted Lady Gwendeline Bertie (1885-1941) - "Goonie" to her friends - before she accepted a marriage proposal from his brother, Jack. They married in 1908, with Churchill serving as best man. Churchill maintained a close friendship with her until her death in 1941.The telegram, which could not be traced in the Churchill Archives, was possibly in support of Churchill's speech of 18 October, in which he proposed an Anglo-German pause in battleship construction. He writes from the Admiralty Yacht, HMS Enchantress.
