With very best love, yours affectionately, W".In 1907, Churchill courted Lady Gwendeline Bertie (1885-1941) - "Goonie" to her friends - before she accepted a marriage proposal from his brother, Jack. In 1952, Clarissa married Anthony Eden, Churchill's wartime Foreign Secretary and later successor as Prime Minister.
