First edition in English of Frison-Roche's novel, based on his experiences as a war correspondent in Tunisia and several expeditions in the Sahara.Roger Frison-Roche (1906-1999) was a mountaineer who "in 1932 became the first to transmit a radio programme from the peak of Mont Blanc, the ascent of which he described as 'almost too easy'" (The Independent). This work was originally published in French in 1950 and translated into English by American composer and author of The Sheltering Sky, Paul Bowles (1910-1999).
