Her work traces a journey through Darjeeling, Sikkim, and the Himalayan borderlands, combining mountain travel with encounters in Buddhist monastic communities.Fisher (1879-1980), an American educator and missionary, later became a leading advocate of international literacy work in India.Written during her years in India with her husband, Methodist bishop Frederick Bohn Fisher, they followed "the route of the Everest climbers, and went on to spend some time with the lamas (priests) of the lamassaries of Sikhim and Nepal to the very border of Tibet" (front flap).
