A novelisation of the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, wonderfully illustrated by George Cruikshank. The novel was originally serialised in Bentley’s Miscellany in 1840 and first published in a three-volume book edition in 1841. A very good copy indeed, some light offsetting from plates and a few instances of minor spotting, light rubbing to joints.
