Limited edition
This is a rare portfolio facsimile edition of the GEORGE CATLIN ( 1796-1872) ) North American Indian Portfolio, published by Abbeville Press in 1989 and is number 197 of only 950 sets. The portfolio is held in a clamshell box bound in three quarter leather over cream cloth with a leather patch on the front measuring 23 x 16 x 1 1/2 inches on the case and 21 3/4 x 15 1/4 on the portfolio plates. This facsimile edition of the New York original edition of 1845 incorporates 6 additional plates from the London edition of 1844 not included in the American edition, and is signed by Dana Pratt Director of Publishing, Library of Congress, and Robert Abrams President of Abbeville Press. The prints are all in excellent condition as well as the multipage introduction, field notes, and bio and map of Catlins adventures in the Native American tribes of the Rocky Mountains and Prairies. All 6 of the additional drawings for this special edition are intact ... drawings of plate Number 2, 6,13, and number 18 of the remaining set are missing from the otherwise complete portfolio but narrative descriptions of these missing plates are part of the printed narrative. Due to the volume of prints and limitations of the ebay listing, I have presented a sample of the contents including portfolio hardcover, table of contents, introduction, and photos of one of the 6 additional pictures, and a few examples of the 21 remaining print drawings. Excellent condition of interior narrative pages and untouched,
