A “most entertaining book” (Gosse), the first edition of which appeared in Paris in 1690. It “also forms the third volume of Exquemeling’s Histoires des Aventuriers des Flibustiers ” (Sabin). A deeply religious man (!) Raveneau de Lussan resorted to piracy in order to evade his creditors and in an effort to solve his financial problems. Concentrating his efforts in the West Indies and on the coast of South America between between Chile and Guatemala, Raveneau’s venture into piracy was most successfull, even though he refused to allow his crew to begin their plundering and looting until they had attended Mass.
