£950 · Offered by Shapero Rare Books

A finely bound set of this classic of maritime history, recording every naval operation of the Napoleonic and American Wars, including actions such as the Battle of the Nile and Trafalgar. The author consulted not only every published work bearing on the subject, and especially the official narratives, both English and French, but also the logs of the several ships, and, whenever possible, the actors themselves. New edition; six vols, 8vo (22.5 x 14.5 cm); numerous in-text diagrams, folding tables to rear, armorial bookplates to front free endpapers, a little spotted; contemporary full polished calf, gilt fillets to board borders and gilt rolls to edges, spines in six elaborately gilt compartments with gilt morocco lettering pieces, all edges and endpapers marbled, a fine set.
