Robert Elwes (1819-1878) was as noted for his art and lithographs as he was for his writing, including the lithographs within this work, and his descriptions of the Americas provide a distinct but enjoyable contrast to those of Charles Darwin who had made his trip in the Beagle only 15 years prior.
