Duodecimo, later quarter vellum over marbled papered boards, gilt lettering to spine; pp. 184; title with woodcut Jesuit device, early inscription at upper margin shaved by binder; scattered foxing. A report on the current state of affairs in Japan and the progress of the mission there, by the Portuguese Jesuit missionary and linguist Luís Fróis (1532-1597). In the same year, at least two other editions in Italian were printed, and a French edition appeared in Douay; in 1596 a German translation was published in Köln. Fróis, who had arrived in Japan via Goa and Macau in 1563, was author of the important Historia de Iapam .
