Il y rassemble ses recherches sur la théorie des nombres, en particulier, des nombres polygonaux et nombres hexagonaux. Il traite également de chronologie et de gnomonique, des Éléments d Euclide, de polyèdres réguliers et des principaux instruments astronomiques. Maurolico y utilise le principe de l induction mathématique, énoncé ici pour la première fois clairement. En outre, le supplément arithmétique de l ouvrage, renferme de nombreuses formules préfigurant l analyse spécieuse de François Viète. « Among the most important of Maurolico s extant books are the Cosmographia (Venice 1543), Opuscula mathematica (Venice 1575), Photismi de lumine (possibly Venice 1575, and certainly Naples 1611), and Problemata mechanica (Messina 1613) The greatest number of Maurolico s mathematical writings are gathered in the Opuscula mathematica ; indeed the second volume of that work « Arithmeticorum libri duo » is wholly devoted to that subject and contains some notable research on the theory of numbers Among the topics related to mathematics in the Opuscula are chronology and gnomonics. The work also contains writings on Euclid s Elements . Of particular interest, too, is a passage on a correlation between regular polyhedrons, which was commented upon by J.H.T. Müller, and later by Moritz Cantor Maurolico s work
