Duodecimo (165 x 100 mm), later marbled papered boards with gilt-lettered morocco label to spine; title with Jesuit vignette and early ownership inscription (some expert restoration), pp. 261; lacking leaf O9 (225-6).frequent minor worming, occasionally with restoration resulting in the loss of a few letters or words, This collection of recent letters from Jesuits in the Far East deals principally with the martyrdoms and persecutions of the missionaries and converts in Japan. It contains letters written from Macao in 1625, 1626 and 1627 by Fathers Gio. Battista Bonelli, Pedro Morejon, João Rodrigues (Giram), and Christoforo Ferreira. At the end is a dissertation on the Nestorian Monument re-discovered in Xi’an, China in the 1620s, Dichiaratione di una pietra antica, scritta e scolpita con l infrascritte lettere, ritrovata nel Regno della China (pp. 250-61). The Italian translation of the inscription on the stele had first been published in Italian by Francesco Corbelletti in 1631. This second Italian edition of Lettere annue del Giappone de gl anni MDCXXV. MDCXXVI. MDCXXVII , printed by Filippo Ghisolfi, was unknown to Cordier, who only cites the Francesco Corbelletti edition of 1632.
