A detailed history of Christianity in China, beginning with the catholic missionaries Francis Xavier and Matteo Ricci in the sixteenth century, Verbiest, Gerbillon and Bouvet in the seventeenth century, and persecutions of Christians in the eighteenth century. Also includes detail on the mission at Tong-King (present dat Vietnam) established by Rhodes, before discussion on the Protestant missions established by Morrison in Macao and Canton, followed by Milne and Medhurst. Interesting detail on the Malacca College and their mission press is included, with details on the number of volumes printed, and the entree of missionaries up the Eastern coastline and into the interior of China. An interesting work which is scarce in commerce.
