Octavo, prize binding from Presbyterian Ladies College Melbourne by Relfe Bothers of London, with their emblem and old school motto Ohne Hast Ohne Rast on upper board (German, from Goethe Without haste! without rest! , changed due to political considerations at the outbreak of the Second World War); spine in compartments with raised bands (slightly sunned), ornamental gilt tooling, contrasting morocco title label lettered in gilt; marbled edges and endpapers; prize label to front pastedown awarded to Miss F. (Frieda) Hartkopf of IIIB for Reading; engraved title page, viii, (2), 180 pp., folding map printed in colour; a fine copy. This book was awarded to Frieda Hartkopf (Fitzroy 1892 1968 Elwood), younger sister of Albert Ernst Victor ( Bert ) Hartkopf (1889-1968), Australian Test cricketer and Australian Rules footballer. PLC was still located in East Melbourne at this time, a short distance from the Hartkopf family residence in Fitzroy.
