Harry N. Abrams, Inc., New York, 1995. Paperback. Near Fine. Revised and updated edition. John Baeder (1938– ) has made a career of making photorealistic paintings of diners. Yet, with hundreds of such works in his portfolio, each uniquely expresses the distinct personality of every subject. First published in 1978, Diners reproduced 105 of John Baeder’s paintings in color and black and white with commentary connecting autobiographical details and an artistic tendency toward nostalgia. This 1995 revised and updated edition includes more works in color and replaces some of the painter’s earlier pieces with more recent ones. Reflective surfaces, neon lights, and architectural aberrations are the artist’s playground with magical results. We’re pleased to offer a Near Fine copy, only issued in paperback, of Baeder’s arresting work.
