Octavo (185 x 130 mm), gilt-illustrated cloth over bevelled boards (a little canted, edges slightly rubbed); early inscriptions to endpaper, verso of half-title and dedication leaf; pp. 240, (32 illustrated publisher s catalogue); illustrated with vignette line drawings and several full-page plates; text block a little cracked, a few light marks, a very good copy. Scarce second edition of Turner s first book, a classic tale of seven mischievous Australian children and their escapades in the countryside outside Sydney. The first edition sold out within weeks and was quickly reprinted the same year, running into hundreds of editions in many languages.
