Thick octavo, publisher s purple cloth, upper board with gilt-stamped device depicting Wandjina spirit, spine lettered in gilt (a little sunned), colour frontispiece plate, pp xx, 422, illustrated with 55 photographic plates and line drawings in the text; edges slightly foxed, a very good copy. Loosely enclosed : the original publisher s printed prospectus of 8 pages, and the upper panel and spine of the dustjacket, both very well preserved. Explorer, anthropologist and geologist Herbert Basedow s major survey of the Indigenous cultures of northwest Western Australia and North and Central Australia, incorporating research material and photographs from his own expeditions. Provenance: Charles R. J. Glover, his armorial bookplate to front pastedown.
