Albumen print photograph, cabinet card format, 165 x 110 mm, with the full autograph signature of the actress as Madge Kendal written in ink in the lower margin recto; verso with the imprint of Elliott Fry, 55 Baker Street, London, and a neat inscription in pencil Mrs Kendal ; in very good condition. English actress Dame Madge Kendal (born Margaret Shafto Robertson; 1848 1935) was a star of the Victorian and Edwardian stage, renowned for her Shakespearean roles. She married the actor W. H. Kendal in 1869, and the couple managed the St James s Theatre, London, from 1879-1888. She was made a Dame Grand Cross of the British Empire in 1927.
