Gelatin silver print photograph, 165 x 215 mm, laid down on its original board mount with the handwritten details of the photographer on the mount l.r. C. V. Bland Photo Geelong ; verso with fully contemporary inscription in pencil identifying the four gentlemen as McIntyre, Prowse, Batty, Hall ; in excellent condition. Mr. C. V. Bland was an assistant at Lockwood s studio in the early 1920s, and probably earlier. From around 1925 he appears to have worked as a semi-professional photographer based at his home in Verner Street, South Geelong. From 1920s newspaper notices we learn that Bland was particularly fond of photographing sports subjects such as cycling and football, and local events such as beauty pageants and Catholic Church activities. His photographs were frequently used in local publications.
