Published in four issues of Pacific Islands Monthly (Sydney, NSW), Vol. X, Nos. 8-11, March-June 1940. No. 8, Section I: pp. 37-42 with 1 map and 3 b/w photos; No. 9, Section II: pp. 37-41 with 1 map; No. 10, Section III: pp. 32-37 with 1 map; No. 11, Section IV: pp. 50-54; the four complete issues of PIM are in fine condition, bound together in a bespoke binding commissioned by Sydney bibliophile Geoffrey Ingleton, 280 x 220 mm, papered boards featuring a chart of the Fly River, backed in red cloth with black-lettered title to spine. Between March 1938 and June 1939 Patrol Officer Jim Taylor, in company with J. R. Black and medical assistant C. B. Walsh, led the Hagen-Sepik Patrol from Mt Hagen to the Dutch New Guinea border. It was the longest patrol in New Guinea history, and the world s last major land exploration. Taylor s account was first published in 1940 in four parts in consecutive issues of Pacific Islands Monthly.
