Spine ends are pushed and no longer stiff, both hinges of both volumes somewhere between weak and cracked. This book originally came unopened (meaning the signatures had to be cut by the reader as they went) and several pages were poorly opened in volume 1 leading to chips or rips. Page 50's error lead to a big rip it apparently disheartened the reader so much they stopped reading, as the rest of the volume is unopened. Volume 2 is unopened after the table of contents.
