Octavo (200 x 135 mm), contemporary panelled calf, spine with raised bands and contrasting leather title piece lettered in gilt; pp. [66], 464, [43 Index]; two engraved frontispiece plates with portraits of John and Peter Barwick, respectively, folding table bound in at p. 316, engraved head- and tailpieces and initials; text in Latin; occasional spotting and browning, otherwise internally excellent; a fine copy in an attractive contemporary binding. A biography of John Barwick (1612-1664), royalist churchman and Dean of St. Paul s Cathedral, written in 1671 by his brother, the physician Peter Barwick (1619-1705), who deposited the manuscript, along with the original papers in support of the facts mentioned in his account, in the library of St John s college, Cambridge. It remained unpublished until William Bowyer s edition of 1721.
