The final issue of Lucky Peach is about as good of a send off as we can ask for the quarterly magazine at its fraught and unexpected end. Billed as a double issue, the only new material in this volume comes at the beginning with brief backgrounds on how the cover designs came to be for every issue of LP , an inside look on magazine production, and the recurring restaurant recommendation column known as Atlas. The rest of the issue is a “Best Of” collection of favorite pieces from the magazine’s 6 year run. You’ll find Anthony Bourdain’s personal and touching reflection on beach life from volume #12; Mark Ibold’s Potato Chips and Ramen Dip from volume #1; John Birdsall’s poignant piece, America, Your Food Is So Gay from volume #8; Fuchsia Dunlop’s equally humorous and serious Dick Soup from volume #8; This Must Be the Place by Jonathan Gold, a reflection on the sensuous and imperfect pleasure of street food from volume #10; and many other favorites.
