Three volumes duodecimo, full morocco, spines lettered and decorated in gilt (leather a little rubbed at the extremities, minor wear to the corners, rear joint and the head of the spine of the first volume); all edges gilt; pp. [iv], 347 plus 10 plates; [iv], 320 plus 7 plates; and [vi], 367 plus 9 plates; a fine set. Provenance: Nicholas Chevalier (1828-1902), the Russian-born Swiss artist who worked extensively in Australasia between 1855 and 1869. A binder s blank at the beginning of each volume is signed and inscribed in pencil N. Chevalier | to | Miss E. Gowland | Xmas 1888 (the pencilling in the first volume may have been lightly erased, but Miss Gowland s first name, Emma , is still legible).
