The Gourmand's Lemon: A Collection of Stories and Recipes
$50 · Offered by Kitchen Arts & Letters
The British culinary journal The Gourmand continues its a series of books dedicated to single ingredients with the lemon. (You can find The Gourmand’s Egg here .) Historic and contemporary artwork and photography appears throughout the book, with images from the work of Roy Lichtenstein, Edouard Manet, Frida Kahlo, Giovanna Garzoni, Ed Ruscham and many others, including advertisements. Essays and stories explore the genetic history of lemons, the effect of citrus on the Medici dynasty and La Cosa Nostra, the iconography of the lemonade stand–apparently a particularly American phenomenon–and even lemons in pop music. There are also some 50-plus recipes for everything from lemon-poached salmon and a calves’s liver piccata with gremolata to citronkladdkaka (a Swedish sticky lemon cake), lemon posset, and a lightly fermented lemonade from Finland called sima . Hardcover. Color photographs throughout.
