Virgin forest, Karridale Timber Station, southwest Western Australia, 1901.

A$400 · Offered by Douglas Stewart Fine Books

Albumen print photograph, 140 x 200 mm; manuscript caption in the negative Virgin Forest, Karridale Timber Station ; laid down on a section of the original album mount of thin card; a superb print with beautiful tones, in fine condition. In the left foreground two men can be seen, dismounted beside their horses in the dense undergrowth. The State Library of Western Australia holds a variant of the same image, firmly attributed to the partnership of Charles Greenham and Laura Evans and dated to 1901, which was apparently taken just before or after the present photograph. It shows the men mounted on horseback in the same part of forest ( BA129/14: Virgin forest, Karridale Timber Station, 1901 ).
