Native village near Suva, Fiji , laid down on original board mount with photographer s imprint of Burton, Dunedin at lower right and printed title The Camera in the Coral Islands at lower left, mild foxingaround the edges of mount (not affecting image), otherwise a strong print in very good condition. Taken in mid-1884 during the second trip of the Wairarapa to the South Seas by the New Zealand photographer Alfred Henry Burton, this photograph featured as No. 2522 in the Burton Brothers catalogue of photographs from their trips to the Fijian Islands, Tonga, and Samoa, A camera in the Coral Islands (1884).
