Adventure, Youth & Duty. First edition, presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "With best wishes from 'The Rector.' Mar 3 1937". The recipient was Admiral Martin E. Dunbar-Nasmith VC, the first submariner to reach flag rank and the Second Sea Lord from 1935 to 1938.Dunbar-Nasmith received the VC during the First World War for attacking Turkish naval forces in the Sea of Marmara. He was promoted to rear-admiral in 1928 and vice-admiral in 1932, the same year that he became Commander-in-Chief, East Indies. During the Second World War, he served as Commander-in-Chief Western Approaches and then as flag officer in charge, London.This book reproduces the text of Evans's address to the University of Aberdeen on 3 March 1937, following his election as rector, and an informal address to students given a month earlier. He reflected on his Polar adventures with Scott and Scott's distinctive leadership qualities.
