The book advertises "nearly 350 illustrations" and contains chapters on "Cats of the Past", "Care and Management", "Cat Photography for Amateurs", as well as detailed description of 23 breeds, and the history of famous catteries.Frances Simpson (1857-1926) attended the inaugural Crystal Palace Cat Show as a child. She later pursued a successful career in cat breeding and became a respected senior judge in competitions. Simpson was also a prolific writer, contributing to encyclopedias and journals, and writing regular articles in the weekly pet magazine Fur and Feather. She was a particular advocate for Blue Persians, and promoted their breeding in America, where the practice was not yet well established.
