This was the highest point achieved at the time before they were surpassed by Messner and Habeler, who reached the summit of Everest in 1978. Wager is described as "was one of the finest geological thinkers of his generation and his influence upon his science was deep and lasting" (ODNB).The work was first published in 1919; this copy is from a later edition.
