His account interweaves narrative with the country's rich history and mythology.This copy is inscribed to "Robert A. Duncan from his sincere friend Clanmaurice on his leaving Eton Election 1859". Robert Haldane-Duncan (1841-1918) was the 3rd Earl of Camperdown. This copy was gifted to him by his fellow Eton student Henry Petty-Fitzmaurice (1845-1927), who was given the courtesy title of Viscount Clanmaurice until 1863, when he became the 5th Marquess of Lansdowne. Petty-Fiztmaurice was later appointed Viceroy of India and served as Secretary of State for War and Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.Egypt and Nubia was first published in 1845.
