A presentation copy of an offprint specially bound for the author's wife, with a substantial autograph dedication, accompanied by an archive of letters and related material documenting his work in British East Africa.The collection includes an autograph letter from James George Frazer acknowledging Dundas's research, alongside ten letters from his wife, Claudia, written from Kismayu.The archive brings together three interrelated strands: Dundas's ethnographic fieldwork, its engagement with contemporary anthropology, and the personal record of life in a remote colonial station. Claudia's letters, written on headed British East Africa notepaper from Kismayu in Jubaland, offer a first-hand account of a European woman's life at the margins of empire, complementing the more formal record of his administrative work.Kenneth Robert Dundas (1882-1915), District Commissioner in the East African Protectorate, married Anne Claudia Whalley Whorley Foot (1880-1943) in 1909; their son Claud is mentioned in the letters. Dundas was later killed in action at Gallipoli.
