The One-Bottle Cocktail
$22 · Offered by Kitchen Arts & Letters
A cocktail book for people who don’t have endless amounts of space for little-used bottles. Hoffman, who runs the drinks section at seriouseats.com, has compiled an impressive array of single-spirit recipes devised by herself and other mixologists. Some are simple, some more complex. All use fruits, vegetables, herbs, teas, and pantry items to incorporate the sweet, bitter, sour, herbal, and spice components more commonly supplied by expensive bitters, special liqueurs and amaros, and other spirits that—in home bars, at least—often get used for one round of drinks then languish on the shelf long past their prime. Recipes are grouped by the spirit they feature, and suggestions for using alternative spirits abound. Because so many of the non-alcoholic ingredients are fresh, there is motivation to drink seasonally with recipes like Blackberry-cucumber Mule; Can’t Elope in Panama (using fresh cantaloupe); and the Garden Gnome (featuring raw green tomatoes). Also, don’t miss the El Gallito—after crushing the fruits and vegetables for the cocktail, the leftover pulp makes an awesome salsa! Hardcover. Color photographs throughout.
