BLOSSFELDT, Karl.

Art Forms In Nature. First English edition, first published in Germany a year earlier. By training a botanist, Blossfeldt pioneered macro botanical photography, using a self-fashioned camera and lens which could magnify a subject by 30 times. Though invaluable as a botanical study, Blossfeldt created the work primarily with artists, designers, and architects in mind, believing "the plant must be valued as a totally artistic and architectural structure." Geometric and repeating patterns and ornamental details are revealed in the close-up images of the flora, showing how nature can be the ultimate source of design inspiration.
