Daniel Henry MacKinnon (1813-1884) served under Lord Keane, was present at the siege and capture of Ghazni, and served through the Sutlej campaign. The first volume focuses on Afghanistan and the second on events in the Punjab.In addition, this candid account describes the defence of Jalalabad, Pollock's relief of Kabul, and Anglo-Sikh interactions in Kolkata and along the north-west frontier. MacKinnon also writes about the various tribes he encountered, such as the Kauker "hill-bandits".
