O Chekhove (About Chekhov). First edition of Bunin's unfinished work about his friend and literary influence Anton Chekhov, published posthumously after his death in 1953. Chekhov's sister Maria believed: "no one writes better than [Bunin]; he knew and understood my deceased brother very well … I would very much like this biography to correspond to reality and to be written by I. A. Bunin" (quoted in Marullo, p. ix).Bunin met Chekhov in 1895, and they became close friends in 1899: "every day in the evening I dropped in on Chekhov and sometimes remained there until three or four in the morning … with no other writer did I have the kind of relationship that I had with Chekhov" (Bunin quoted in Connolly, p. 10). The first English translation was published in 2007 by Thomas Gaiton Marullao, as About Chekhov. The Unfinished Symphony.
