[Two Autograph Letters, Signed]. To Kate Alama Orgain, compiler of Southern Authors in Poetry and Prose (New York & Washington: Neale, 1908), then resident in Temple, Texas. The popular New Orleans fiction writer and historian agrees in the first letter: "You may, with my cheerful consent, use anything I have written...I should think that Texas readers would be interested in an extract from my De Soto...the account of the march of his men from Red River into Texas...," signed in full. The second letter, accompanied by its envelope, informs the recipient that "I have a perfect horror against having my picture published and must beg you to excuse me from sending on any photo...." Signed in full. King (1851-1932) has a solid, if occasionally controversial, place in the rank of 2nd tier fiction writers about 19th century life in Louisiana.
