American baritone and actor (1903-1998), had a very successful career as a concert singer with over 2,000 performances in 56 countries. Particularly well known as Porgy in George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, a role he created in 1935 for a Broadway production. Duncan was Gershwin's personal choice for this role and ended up performing it over 1800 times. Signed photograph shown as himself, inscribed. Stamped on verso by Van Damm photo studio, New York. Size is 8 x 10 inches , with very slight creases at edges, otherwise in excellent condition.
