A beautiful and faithful reproduction of the 1543 original produced by one of America’s finest presses to have existed. The Grabhorn Press, founded in 1919 in San Francisco by Edwin and Robert Grabhorn, has been compared to the great English private presses of the period for the quality of their productions. This work is no exception: the text is hand-set in Italian Old Style type on luxurious Van Gelden paper; the title page is printed faithfully to the original and red-and-black; and it includes eight woodcut illustrations by Hand Leonhard Schaufelin. The binding is lavishly patterned in orange and brown with a cream cloth spine. Importantly, this edition retains an excellently preserved and very scarce original paper dust wrapper, as well as a glassine outer wrapper with spine titling in black.
